Adam Foks is planting a church in a needy suburb
Fordon, Poland

The Church should expand constantly. In the beginning it gets stronger, enlarges the number of members, focuses on issues connected with faith, quality of relationships and ministries. When it gets mature, it still expands and improves all those fields, but starts to focus on setting up a new church.  It is not a coincidence that the churches that set up new ones are the strongest churches. God rewards dedication connected with obedience.

Adam Foks

And the time for another place, Fordon, has come in God’s plan. It is the biggest suburb of Poland. There live more than 80,000 people without God, purpose in life, without hope, and the only word they can hear are the delusive contents of “gospel” which are told by the Jehovah's Witnesses.

Our task, as Christians, is to win over the “lost souls” through sharing the Gospel, which purpose is not to make the whole world convert, but to make the people – the Church (II Timothy 3:1-5,13). The purpose of so called „Great Commandment” from Matthew 28:18-20 is to call people the Heaven. We go to Heaven as believers, brought back to life by the work of the Holy Spirit.  We should desire to take with us as many people as we can. God wants to find the lost! When a sinner gives his life to Jesus, the whole Heaven rejoice!

This is my vision for the expansion of the Church in Fordon: first of all we go out to share the gospel, to see people repent and in faith give their lives to Christ.  Then we are supposed to include them in the community of church through baptism. Then we should teach them the Christian life and ministry. And finally, they are supposed to go out and do the same, initiating the new cycle.

This is what the essence of the expansion of the church is about.  Such church should come into being and every suburb of Poland. God has put one upon my heart – Fordon.  This is the place where I live and work with people, to whom I share the Gospel, meet in homegroups, work with leaders and I see that the new church will not be planted here – it already exists!

And everything started from prayer...

I started to lead prayer meetings, in which two Christian families took part. We were asking God for Fordon and about the revival in this place. We were also praying...

  • So that people from Fordon would become important to us. So important so that we would be ready to dedicate them our time for building the relationships with them, getting to know them, care about their problems and needs

  • So that God would open the eyes of Christians to convince them that there is a need of spiritual work in this part of the city

  • For the workers that God has prepared to work here in His amazing, eternal plan – for ourselves

  • For wisdom in making decisions and steps connected with organizing evangelical events, seminars etc.

As the answer to our prayers, God gave the possibility to work and serve Him, giving us the tools and the resources.

As a church planter, I am responsible in my home church for missions and evangelical events. I dedicate my time, strength and life to plant a new church. The work that I lead in this place is the first one of this kind, because nobody has ever reached those people with gospel before. The “target group” that I focus on when sharing the gospel are mostly the young people. I cooperate with the Youth House of Culture, youth clubs and high schools in the city.

Twice, I organized the seminars aimed at preventing addictions to alcohol, drugs and tobacco in 8 high schools. More than 5 thousands of people had a chance to hear about Jesus who can set them free from every addiction. There were given out more than 7 thousands of brochures, leaflets and Christian books. My obligations are: leading a homegroup of Bible study, coordinating the homegroups led by other leaders, leading the Fordon ministry team meetings.

I lead a group of seven leaders, whom I meet regularly on every Tuesday.  Together we pray, study God’s word and plan actions, realizing a strategic vision. I also lead a prayer group for all people who desire to pray about Fordon and people who live here. Since December of 2002 I have been organizing regular evangelical events. The meetings take place on the first Sunday of each month at 6 P.M. in the rented club "HEROS” which is in the picture below.

So far, several such meetings took place. We were watching Christian films on a big screen, listening to testimonies of people who were touched and changed by God. During the meetings people get New Testaments. In the first meeting there took part about 130 people, in the second about a hundred, and the average number of people at the meetings is about 60.

So far we have talked about cults and eastern religions, death and what is after, the shadows of metaphysics, the kingdom of darkness. We have also talked about the suffering and why God lets it to be that way. Drugs, alcohol, sport, meditations, yoga, real happiness are the subjects that were brought up on the meetings.

Ahead of me there is a lot of hard work, building new relationships, creating new biblical groups, organizing and leading evangelical events, work with leaders, social and charity work in the area of the city. I would like to thank you for prayers, without them my work couldn’t expand.

I am also asking for further prayers for wisdom for me in building new relationships with people and work with "fresh Christians". This year we would like to find a place that we could rent for weekly services. We are praying so that God will choose the best place and will give us the possibilities to rent it. We are also looking for the financial resources which would let us pay for the rental and for the mission, church planting work.

Missionary to Fordon,
Adam Foks
