THE SECOND COMING - A Bible narrative
This is a harmony of Matthew 24:- 26:2, Mark 13:, and Luke 21:5-36 - the seminar Jesus held on Mount Olivet concerning His return. It has been supplemented with all the references I could find in the gospels to our Lord’s return, together with other passages which help us to understand what is going to happen soon.
Our Lord’s return permeates Scripture from Genesis to Revelation (especially Revelation!), so not all the references are here, otherwise we would end up with whole Bibles!
I have put the passages in an order to help understanding, but in doing this I have sometimes assumed things the Scriptures do not actually say - so be prayerfully critical of my choices; and please exercise maximum forgiveness where the references are wrong!
The aim is to help you understand how to live in the light of ..........
HIS PROMISE: -
He said to them, "It is not for you to know times or seasons which the Father has put in His own authority; but you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth."
Now when He had spoken these things, while they watched, He was taken up, and a cloud received Him out of their sight. While they looked steadfastly toward heaven as He went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel, who also said,
"Men of
Galilee, why do you stand gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, who was taken
up from you into heaven, will so come in like manner as you saw Him go into
heaven."
(Acts 1: 7 - 11)
Note on notes; -
When a chunk is labelled ‘Olivet’, then it will be found in the above three passages in the Gospels. I have added the words in italics to make the English flow or help understanding.

FROM THE
LORD’S FIRST TO HIS SECOND COMING
THE TEMPLE WILL BE DESTROYED (Olivet)
1 Moving on, Jesus departed from the temple. As He was going out, His disciples came to Him to point out the buildings. As some spoke of the temples being adorned with beautiful stones and donations, one of His disciples said to Him, "Teacher look, what stones, and what buildings! Jesus answered him saying to them, "Don’t you see all these great buildings? Assuredly I say to you, these things which you are looking at, the days will come in which no stone will be left laid upon another, none shall not be thrown down."
THE SIGNS OF HIS TIMES (Olivet)
2 As He was sitting upon the Mount of Olives opposite the temple, the disciples Peter, James, John, and Andrew came to Him and asked Him privately, saying, "Teacher, tell us, when will these things be? What sign will there be when all these things are about to take place, and be fulfilled? What will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age”?
3 Jesus answering them began by saying, "Take heed that no-one deceives you”; and He said again “Take heed that you be not deceived. For many will come in My name, saying, 'I am he, the Christ’, and 'The time has drawn near.' and will deceive many. Therefore do not go after them;
4 “You will hear of wars and rumours of wars - see that you are not troubled. When you do hear of wars and commotions and rumours of wars, do not be terrified; for these things must happen; they must all come to pass first, but the end is not yet; it will not come immediately.”
5 Then He said to them, "For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and there will be great earthquakes in various places; and there will be famines and troubles and pestilences in various places; and there will be fearful sights and great signs from heaven. All these are the beginnings of sorrows, of birth-pangs.
DISCIPLESHIP WILL
NOT BE A SOFT OPTION
(Olivet, Matt 10:17-: 23,32-33, 40-42, 16:24-28,Mark 8:38-9:1, 9:3-38, Luke 9:26-27)
6 "Watch out for yourselves, for before all these things, they will lay their hands on you and persecute you, and deliver you up to the synagogues and prisons, and to councils. You will be beaten and scourged in the synagogues, and you will be brought before rulers and kings for My name’s sake; but it will turn out for you as an occasion to testify to them and to the Gentiles; and the gospel must first be preached to all the nations;
7 "When they arrest you and deliver you up, do not worry beforehand, or premeditate how or what you will speak. Whatever is given you in that hour, speak that; for it is not you who speak, but the Holy Spirit of your Father who speaks in you. Therefore settle it in your hearts not to meditate beforehand on what you will answer; for I will give you a mouth and wisdom which all your adversaries will not be able to contradict or resist.
8 “They will deliver you up to tribulation and kill you; you will be hated by all nations for My name's sake. Many will be offended, and will betray one another, and hate one another. A brother will betray and deliver up his brother to death, and a father his child; and children will rise up against their parents and cause them to be put to death. So you will be betrayed even by parents and brothers, relatives and friends, and they will send some of you to your death.
9 "Many false prophets will rise up and deceive many,
and because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold. You will be hated by all men for My name’s sake, but he who
endures to the end shall be saved. Not
a hair of your head shall be lost - so
in your patience possess your souls.
This gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a
witness to all the nations, and then the end will come.
10 “When they persecute you in one city, flee to another. For assuredly, I say to you, you will not have gone through the cities of Israel before the Son of Man comes. Whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven; but whoever denies Me before men, him I will also deny before My Father who is in heaven.
11 "He who receives you receives Me, and he who receives Me receives Him who sent Me.
He who receives a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet's reward; and
he who receives a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man's reward. Whoever gives you or even one of these little ones just a cup of cold water to drink in the name of a disciple, or in My name because you belong to Christ, assuredly, I say to you, he shall by no means lose his reward
12 Then Jesus said to His disciples, "If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. Whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it. For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul ?”
13 “Whoever is ashamed of Me and My words in this
adulterous and sinful generation, of him the Son of Man also will be ashamed
when He comes. For the Son of Man will
come in His own, and in His Father’s glory, and the holy angels with Him, and
He will reward each according to his works.
Assuredly, I say to you truly, that there are some standing here who
shall not taste death (see John 21:22-25)
till they see the Son of Man coming in His kingdom (see Rev 19:11-16), and the kingdom of God present with power (see Acts 1:6-8).
BUT JESUS IS WITH YOU TOTHE END OF THE AGE (Matt 28:16-20)
14 Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Amen.
IT STARTS WITH THE RUIN OF JERUSALEM (Olivet, Luke 13:24-25, Matt 23:37-39)
Items in this section in bold are quotes from the Old Testament with reference.
15 "When you see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet standing in the holy place (Dan9:27,11:31,12:11) where it ought not -whoever reads let the reader understand, - and when you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies, then know that its desolation is near,
16 “Then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains, let those who are in the midst of her depart, and let not those who are in the country enter her. For these are the days of vengeance, that all things which are written may be fulfilled. Let him who is on the housetop not come and go down into the house, nor enter to take anything out of his house, and let him who is in the field not go back to get his clothes or outer garments;
17 "Woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing mothers with babies in those days; and pray that your flight may not be in winter or on the Sabbath. For there will be great distress in the land and wrath upon this people. They will fall by the edge of the sword, and be led away captive into all nations. Jerusalem will be trampled by Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled;
18 "O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her. How often I wanted to gather your children together, even as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, but you were not willing! See! Your house is left to you desolate. Assuredly, I say to you, you shall not see Me until the time comes when you shall say, 'Blessed is He who comes in the name of the LORD.
THE MAN OF LAWLESSNESS WILL COME (2 Thess 2:).
19 Now, brethren, concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to Him, we ask you, not to be soon shaken in mind or troubled, either by spirit or by word or by letter, as if from us, as though the day of Christ had come.
20 Let no one deceive you by any means. That Day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition, who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped. He sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God.
21 Do you not remember that when I was still with you I told you these things? Now you know what is restraining, that he may be revealed in his own time. For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only He who now restrains him will do so until He is taken out of the way. Then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord will consume with the breath of His mouth and destroy with the brightness of His coming.
22 The coming of the lawless one is according to the working of Satan, with all power, signs, and lying wonders, and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved. For this reason God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe the lie, that they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness.
23 But we are bound to give thanks to God always for you, brethren beloved by the Lord, because God from the beginning chose you for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth, to which He called you by our gospel, for the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.
AND SCOFFERS AT THE
BIBLICAL ACCOUNT (2 Peter 3:3-7)
24 Knowing this first: scoffers will come in the last days, walking according to their own lusts, and saying, "Where is the promise of His coming, for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation?" For this they wilfully forget: that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth stood out of water and in the water the world that then existed perished, being flooded with water. The heavens and the earth which now are preserved by the same word, are reserved for fire until the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.
UNTIL THE TIMES OF THE GENTILES ARE FULFILLED.....(Olivet, Luke 17:20-25)
25 "For then in those days, there will be great tribulation, such as has not been since the beginning of the creation of the world which God created until this time; no, nor ever shall be. Unless the Lord had shortened those days, no flesh would be saved; but for the elect's sake, whom He chose - those days will be shortened. The days will come when you will desire to see one of the days of the Son of Man, and you will not see it.
26 "Then, if anyone says to you, as they will, 'Look, here is the Christ in the inner rooms'' or, 'Look, He is there in the desert' do not believe it. Do not go after them or follow them. For false christs and false prophets will arise and show great signs and wonders so as to deceive if possible even the elect. Take heed; see I have told you all things beforehand. For as the lightning that flashes out of one part under heaven shines to the other part under heaven, coming from the east and flashing to the west, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be in His day.
REVELATION 6: -
19: This part is DIY!
THEN JESUS RETURNS (Olivet)
Items in this section in bold are quotes from the Old Testament with references
27 "Immediately after the tribulation of those days, there will be signs in the sun - it will be darkened, and in the moon - it will not give its light, (Is13:10,24:23,Ezek32:7,Joel2:10,31,3:15) and in the stars - for the stars of heaven will fall from heaven. On the earth will be distress of nations, with perplexity, the sea and the waves roaring. Men's hearts will fail them from fear and the expectation of those things which are coming on the earth, for the powers of the heavens in heaven will be shaken (Is34:10);
28 "Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming, in a cloud (Dan7:13), on the clouds of heaven with great power and great glory. He will send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet (Is27:13) and they will gather together His elect from the four winds (Deut30:4) from the farthest part of earth to the farthest part of heaven (Zech2:6), from one end of heaven to the other. Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near."
AND RESCUES JERUSALEM (Zechariah 14:1-7)
29 “For I will gather all the nations to battle against Jerusalem; The city shall be taken, the houses rifled, and the women ravished. Half of the city shall go into captivity, but the remnant of the people shall not be cut off from the city. Then the LORD will go forth and fight against those nations, as He fights in the day of battle.
30 In that day His feet will stand on the Mount of Olives, which faces Jerusalem on the east, and the Mount of Olives shall be split in two, from east to west, making a very large valley. Half of the mountain shall move toward the north and half of it toward the south. Then you shall flee through My mountain valley, for the mountain valley shall reach to Azal.
31 Thus the LORD my God will come, and all the saints with You. It shall come to pass in that day that there will be no light; the lights will diminish. It shall be one day which is known to the LORD, neither day nor night, but at evening time it shall happen that it will be light.
ISRAEL WILL SEE
THEIR MESSIAH AND RULER
(Matt 26:64,2:6, Mark 14:62, Luke 1:31-33)
32 Jesus said to him (the high priest), "I am. It is as you said. Nevertheless, I say to you, hereafter and you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Power, and coming on with the clouds of heaven."
33 "Behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name JESUS. He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David; And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end."
34 'You, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are not the least among the rulers of Judah; for out of you shall come a Ruler who will shepherd My people Israel.'
AND GOD WILL AVENGE HIS SAINTS (Luke 18:7-8, 2 Thess 1:5-12)
35 “....shall God not avenge His own elect who cry out day and night to Him, though He bears long with them? I tell you that He will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will He really find faith on the earth?"
36 It is a righteous thing with God to repay with tribulation those who trouble you, and to give you who are troubled rest with us when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with His mighty angels, in flaming fire taking vengeance on those who do not know God, and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.
37 These shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power, when He comes in that Day, to be glorified in His saints and to be admired among all those who believe, because our testimony among you was believed. Therefore we always pray for you that our God would count you worthy of this calling, and fulfil all the good pleasure of His goodness, and the work of faith with power in you.
WATCH FOR THE SIGN OF THE FIG TREE - ISRAEL (Olivet)
38 He spoke to them a parable: "Look at the fig tree, and all the trees. When they are already budding, you see and know for yourselves that summer is now near. Now learn this parable from the fig tree: when its branch has already become tender and puts forth leaves, you know that summer is near.
39 "So you also likewise, when you see all these things happening, know that the Kingdom of God is near, at the very doors! Assuredly, I say to you, this generation / race will by no means pass away till all these things are fulfilled. Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will never pass away.
40 "Take heed to yourselves, lest your hearts be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness, and cares of this life, and that Day come on you unexpectedly. For it will come as a snare on all those who dwell on the face of the whole earth. Watch therefore, and pray always that you may be counted worthy to escape all these things that will come to pass, and to stand before the Son of Man.";
BUT WHEN WILL IT BE ? (Olivet, Luke 17:26-37)
41 "Of that day and hour no one knows, no, not even the angels of heaven; neither the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but My Father only. Only the Father knows;
42 "As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be also in the days of the coming of the Son of Man. For as in the days before the flood, they were eating and drinking, they married wives and were giving in marriage until the day that Noah entered the ark. They did not know until the flood came and took them all away and destroyed them; so also will the coming of the Son of Man be.
43 "As it was also in the days of Lot: they ate, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they built; but on the day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven and destroyed them all. So will it be in the day when the Son of Man is revealed.
44 "In that day, he who is on the housetop with his goods are in the house, let him not come down to take them away. Likewise the one who is in the field, let him not turn back. Remember Lot's wife. Whoever seeks to save his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life will preserve it.
45 "I tell you, in that night there will be two men in one bed: the one will be taken and the other will be left. Then two men will be in the field: one will be taken and the other left. Two women will be grinding together at the mill: the one will be taken and the other left. They answered Him, "Where, Lord?" So He said to them, "Wherever the body carcase is, there the eagles will be gathered together."
INTERLUDE FOR
PARABLES
WATCH (Olivet, Luke 12:39-40)
46 "Watch therefore, for you do not know at what hour your Lord is coming; but know this, that if the master of the house had known at what hour the thief would come, he would have watched and not allowed his house to be broken into. Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect. Take heed, watch and pray; for you do not know when the time is.
47 "It is like a man going to a far country, who left his house and gave authority to his servants, and to each his work, and commanded the doorkeeper to watch. Watch therefore, for you do not know when the master of the house is coming - in the evening, at midnight, at the crowing of the cock, or in the morning; lest, coming suddenly, he find you sleeping. What I say to you, I say to all: Watch!"
THE FAITHFUL AND THE EVIL SERVANT (Olivet, Luke 12:42-46)
(or “keep luvin’ and servin’“)
48 "Consider the faithful and wise steward, whom his master made ruler over his household, to give them their food at the right time ? Blessed is a servant whom his master, when he comes, will find so doing. Truly I say to you that he will make him ruler over all his goods;
49 ".but if an evil servant says in his heart, 'My master is delaying his coming, and begins to beat his fellow men and maidservants, and to eat and drink with drunkards; the master of that servant will come on a day when he is not looking for him and at an hour that he is not expecting. He will cut him in two and appoint him his portion with unbelievers and hypocrites - there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
WATCHING FOR THE
MASTER’S RETURN FROM THE WEDDING (Luke 12:35-38, 47-48)
50 "Be dressed with your lamps burning, like men who wait for their master returning from his wedding, that when he comes and knocks they may open to him immediately. Blessed are those servants whom the master, when he comes, will find watching. Assuredly, I say to you that he will dress himself and have them sit down to eat, and will come and serve them.
51 "If he should come in the second watch, or come in the third watch, and find them so, blessed are those servants; but that servant who knew his master's will, and did not prepare himself or do according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes. He who did not know, yet committed things deserving of stripes, shall be beaten with few. For everyone to whom much is given, from him much will be required; and to whom much has been committed, of him they will ask the more.
WISE AND FOOLISH VIRGINS WAIT FOR THE BRIDEGROOM (Olivet)
(or “keep your lamp burning to the end”)
52 "The kingdom of heaven shall be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. Five of them were wise, and five foolish. The foolish took their lamps and took no oil with them, but the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.
53 "While the bridegroom was delayed, they all slumbered and slept. At midnight a cry was heard: 'Behold, the bridegroom is coming; go out to meet him!' Then all those virgins arose and trimmed their lamps. The foolish said to the wise, 'Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.’; but the wise answered, saying, 'No, lest there should not be enough for us and you; but go rather to those who sell, and buy for yourselves'.
54 "While they went to buy, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the wedding; and the door was shut. Afterward the other virgins came also, saying, 'Lord, Lord, open to us!'; but he answered, 'Assuredly, I say to you, I do not know you.' Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour when the Son of Man is coming.
PARABLE OF THE TALENTS (Olivet)
(or “even if you are ‘talented’ differently, doing nothing is theft)
55 "The kingdom of heaven is like a man travelling to a far country, who called his own servants and delivered his goods to them. To one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one, to each according to his own ability; and immediately he went on a journey.
56 "Then he who had received the five talents went and traded with them, and made another five talents; and likewise he who had received two gained two more; but he who had received one went and dug in the ground, and hid his lord's money.
57 "After a long time the lord of those servants came and settled accounts with them. He who had received five talents came and brought five other talents, saying, 'Lord, you gave me five talents; look, I have gained five more talents.' His lord said to him, 'Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.'
58 "He who had received two talents came and said, 'Lord, you gave me two talents; look, I have gained two more talents.' His lord said to him, 'Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.'
59 "Then he who had received the one talent came and said, 'Lord, I knew you to be a hard man, reaping where you have not sown, and gathering where you have not sown; and I was afraid, and went and hid your talent in the ground. Look there, you have what is yours.'
60 "His lord answered to him, 'You wicked and lazy servant, you knew that I reap where I have not sown, and gather where I have not scattered seed, did you ? You ought to have deposited my money with the bankers, and at my coming I would have received back my own with interest. Take the talent from him, and give it to him who has ten talents - to everyone who has, more will be given, and he will have abundance. From him who does not have, even what he has will be taken away. Cast the unprofitable servant into the outer darkness - there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.'
PARABLE OF THE MINAS/POUNDS (Luke 19:11-27)
(or “we all receive the same spirit, doing nothing is theft”)
61 Now as they heard these things, He spoke another parable, because He was near Jerusalem and because they thought the kingdom of God would appear immediately.
62 "A certain nobleman went into a far country to receive a kingdom and to return. He called ten of his servants, delivered to them ten minas, and said to them, 'Do business till I come.' But his citizens hated him, and sent a delegation after him, saying, 'We will not have this man to reign over us.'
63 “When he returned having received the kingdom, he commanded these servants, to whom he had given the money, to be called to him, that he might know how much every man had gained by trading. The first came saying, 'Master, your mina has earned ten minas.' and he said to him, 'Well done, good servant; because you were faithful in a very little, have authority over ten cities.' The second came, saying, 'Master, your mina has earned five minas.' He said to him, 'You also be over five cities.'
64 "Then another came, saying, 'Master, here is your mina, which I have kept put away in a handkerchief; for I feared you, because you are an austere man. You collect what you do not deposit, and reap what you do not sow.' He said to him, 'Out of your own mouth I will judge you wicked servant. You knew I was an austere man, collecting what I did not deposit and reaping what I did not sow, did you ?. Why then did you not put my money in the bank, that at my coming I might have collected it with interest?'
65 "He said to those who stood by, 'Take the mina from him, and give it to him who has ten minas.' They said to him, 'Master, he already has ten minas.' I say to you, that to everyone who has will more be given; and from him who does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him. Also bring here those enemies of mine, who did not want me to reign over them, and slay them before me.'"
PARABLE 0F THE CUNNING STEWARD (Luke 16:1-13)
(or “the world
admires money cunning, but it leads to one destination.”)
66 "There was a rich man who had a steward, and an accusation was brought to him that this man was wasting his goods. So he called him and said to him, 'What is this I hear about you? Give an account of your stewardship, for you can no longer be steward.' Then the steward said within himself, 'What shall I do? For my master is taking the stewardship away from me. I cannot dig; I am ashamed to beg. 48 "So he called every one of his master's debtors to him, and said to the first, 'How much do you owe my master?; and he said, 'A hundred measures of oil.' So he said to him, 'Take your bill, and sit down quickly and write fifty.' Then he said to another, 'And how much do you owe?' So he said, 'A hundred measures of wheat.' And he said to him, 'Take your bill, and write eighty.'
67 "The master commended the unjust steward for his cunning, for the sons of this world are shrewder in their generation than the sons of light. I say to you, go on, make friends for yourselves by unrighteous wealth; when you fail, they will receive you into hell’s everlasting habitations.
68 "He who is faithful in small things is faithful also in much; and he who is unjust in what is least is unjust also in much. If you have not been faithful in the unrighteous wealth, who will commit to your trust the true riches? If you have not been faithful in what is another man's, who will give you what is your own? No servant can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth."
PARABLE OF WORKERS IN THE VINEYARD (Matt 20:1-16)
(or “the World
demands fairness, but God chooses to be gracious”)
69 "For the kingdom of heaven is like a landowner who went out early in the morning to hire labourers for his vineyard. Now when he had agreed with the labourers for a denarius a day, he sent them into his vineyard; and he went out about the third hour and saw others standing idle in the marketplace, and said to them, 'You also go into the vineyard, and whatever is right I will give you.' So they went.
70 “Again he went out about the sixth and the ninth hour, and did likewise; and about the eleventh hour he went out and found others standing idle, and said to them, 'Why have you been standing here idle all day?' They said to him, 'Because no one hired us.' He said to them, 'You also go into the vineyard, and whatever is right you will receive.'
71 “So when evening had come, the owner of the vineyard said to his steward, 'Call the labourers and give them their wages, beginning with the last to the first; and when those came who were hired about the eleventh hour, they each received a denarius; but when the first came, they supposed that they would receive more; and they likewise received each a denarius; and when they had received it, they complained against the landowner, saying, 'These last men have worked only one hour, and you made them equal to us who have borne the burden and the heat of the day.'
72 "But he answered one of them and said, 'Friend, I am doing you no wrong. Did you not agree with me for a denarius? Take what is yours and go your way. I wish to give to this last man the same as to you. Is it not lawful for me to do what I wish with my own things? Or is your eye evil because I am good?' So the last will be first, and the first last. For many are called, but few chosen."
PARABLE OF THE WEDDING FEAST (Matt 22:1-14)
(or “Gentile
invitations to the Wedding are all grace, but don’t presume”.)
73 And Jesus answered and spoke to them again by parables and said: “The kingdom of heaven is like a certain king who arranged a marriage for his son, and sent out his servants to call those who were invited to the wedding; and they were not willing to come.
74 Again, he sent out other servants, saying, 'Tell those who are invited, "See, I have prepared my dinner; my oxen and fatted cattle are killed, and all things are ready. Come to the wedding." ; but they made light of it and went their ways, one to his own farm, another to his business; and the rest seized his servants, treated them spitefully, and killed them.
75 But when the king heard about it, he was furious; and he sent out his armies, destroyed those murderers, and burned up their city. Then he said to his servants, 'The wedding is ready, but those who were invited were not worthy. Therefore go into the highways, and as many as you find, invite to the wedding.' So those servants went out into the highways and gathered together all whom they found, both bad and good. And the wedding hall was filled with guests.
76 But when the king came in to see the guests, he saw a man there who did not have on a wedding garment. So he said to him, 'Friend, how did you come in here without a wedding garment?'; and he was speechless. Then the king said to the servants, 'Bind him hand and foot, take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.' . For many are called, but few are chosen."
THE GREAT SUPPER (Luke 14:16-24)
(or “Don’t treat
God’s invitations lightly”)
77 "A certain man gave a great supper and invited many, and sent his servant at supper time to say to those who were invited, 'Come, for all things are now ready;'
78 "but they all with one accord began to make excuses. The first said to him, 'I have bought a piece of ground, and I must go and see it. I ask you to have me excused.'; and another said, 'I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I am going to test them. I ask you to have me excused.' Still another said, 'I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.'
79 "So that servant came and reported these things to his master. Then the master of the house, being angry, said to his servant, 'Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in here the poor and the maimed and the lame and the blind.'
80 "And the
servant said, 'Master, it is done as you commanded, and still there is
room.' Then the master said to the
servant, 'Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that
my house may be filled. For I say to
you that none of those men who were invited shall taste my supper.' "
JESUS SORTS
THE PLANET OUT
THE DEVIL IS BOUND (Rev 20:1-3)
81 Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven, having the key to the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand. He laid hold of the dragon, that serpent of old, who is the Devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years; and he cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal on him, so that he should deceive the nations no more till the thousand years were finished. But after these things he must be released for a little while.
WHEAT v (look-alike but fruitless) DARNEL WEED (Matt 13:24-30, 36-43)
82 He put another parable to them, "The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field; but while men slept, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat and went his way; but when the grain had sprouted and produced a crop, then the weeds also appeared.
83 So the servants of the owner came and said to him, 'Sir, did you not sow good seed in your field? How then does it have weeds?' He said to them, 'An enemy has done this.' The servants said to him, 'Do you want us then to go and gather them up?'; but he said, 'No, lest while you gather up the weeds you also uproot the wheat with them. Let both grow together until the harvest, and at the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, "First gather together the weeds and bind them in bundles to burn them, but gather the wheat into my barn." '
84 His disciples came to Him, saying, "Explain to us this parable of the weeds of the field."
He answered and said to them: "He who sows the good seed is the Son of Man. The field is the world, the good seeds are the sons of the kingdom, but the weeds are the sons of the wicked one. The enemy who sowed them is the devil, the harvest is the end of the age, and the reapers are the angels.
85 As the weeds are gathered and burned in the fire, so it
will be at the end of this age. The Son
of Man will send out His angels, and they will gather out of His kingdom
everyting that offends, and those who practice lawlessness, and will cast them
into the furnace of fire. There will be wailing and gnashing of teeth. Then the righteous will shine forth as the
sun in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears to hear, let him hear!
THE WHEAT AND THE CHAFF (Matt 3:11-12, Luke 23:16-17)
86 He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire. His winnowing fan is in His hand, and He will thoroughly purge His threshing floor, and gather the wheat - His wheat - into the barn - His barn; but the chaff He will burn up with unquenchable fire.
THE DRAGNET (Matt 13:47-50)
87 "The kingdom of heaven is like a dragnet that was
cast into the sea and gathered some of every kind of fish. When it was full,
they drew to shore; and they sat down and gathered the good into vessels, but
threw the bad away. So it will be at
the end of the age. The angels will come forth, separate the wicked from among
the just, and cast them into the furnace of fire. There will be wailing and
gnashing of teeth.
AS JESUS RAISED THE
RIGHTEOUS DEAD AT HIS RESURRECTION
(John 5:24-26, Matt 27:50-53, Isaiah 26:19, 1 Peter 4:6, John 11:23-27)
88 "Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life. The hour is coming, and now is, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God; and those who hear will live. For as the Father has life in Himself, so He has granted the Son to have life in Himself,
89 ...And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice, and yielded up His spirit. Then, behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; and the earth quaked, and the rocks were split, and the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised; and coming out of the graves after His resurrection, they went into the holy city and appeared to many.
90 ....Your dead shall live; together with my dead body they shall arise.
Awake and sing, you who dwell in dust; for your dew is like the dew of herbs,
And the earth shall cast out the dead.
91 ... For this reason the gospel was preached also to those who are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit.
92 Jesus said to her "Your brother (Lazarus) will rise again." Martha said to Him, "I know that he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day." Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live; and whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?" She said to Him, "Yes, Lord, I believe that You are the Christ, the Son of God, who is to come into the world."
.. GODS PEOPLE WILL BE RAISED WHEN HE COMES
(1 Cor 15:20-26,28,50-58, 1 Thess 4:13-18))
93 Christ is now risen from the dead, and has become the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. For since by man came death, by Man also came the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all shall be made alive; but each one in his own order: Christ the firstfruits, afterward those who are Christ's at His coming.
94 I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who have fallen asleep, lest you sorrow as others who have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus.
95 We say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are asleep. For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. The dead in Christ will rise first, then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. Thus we shall always be with the Lord - comfort one another with these words.
96 Flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; nor does corruption inherit incorruption. Behold, I tell you a mystery: We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
97 This corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. When this corruptible has put on incorruption, and this mortal has put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying: "Death is swallowed up in victory. O Death, where is your sting? O Hades, where is your victory?" The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law; but thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing your labour is not in vain in the Lord.
98 Then comes the end, when He delivers the kingdom to God the Father, when He puts an end to all rule and all authority and power. He must reign till He has put all enemies under His feet. The last enemy that will be destroyed is death. Now when all things are made subject to Him, then the Son Himself will also be subject to Him who put all things under Him, that God may be all in all.
FIRST RESURRECTION
AND THE MILLENIUM (Rev 20:4-10)
99 I saw thrones, and judgment was committed to those who sat on them. I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded for their witness to Jesus and for the word of God, who had not worshiped the beast or his image, and had not received his mark on their foreheads or on their hands. They lived and reigned with Christ for a thousand years.
100 The rest of the dead did not live again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection. Blessed and holy is he who has part in the first resurrection. Over such the second death has no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and reign with Him a thousand years.
THEN IT’S GOING TO BE GREAT (Isaiah 11:1-10)
101 There shall come forth a Rod from the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots. The Spirit of the LORD shall rest upon Him, the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD.
102 His delight is in the fear of the LORD, and He shall not judge by the sight of His eyes, nor decide by the hearing of His ears. With righteousness He shall judge the poor, and decide with equity for the meek of the earth. He shall strike the earth with the rod of His mouth, and with the breath of His lips He shall slay the wicked. Righteousness and faithfulness shall be His belt.
103 The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, the leopard shall lie down with the young goat; the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them. The cow and the bear shall graze; their young ones shall lie down together; and the lion shall eat straw like the ox. The nursing child shall play by the cobra's hole, and the weaned child shall put his hand in the viper's den. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all My holy mountain.
104 For the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the
LORD as the waters cover the sea. In
that day there shall be a Root of Jesse who shall stand as a banner to the
people; for the Gentiles shall seek
Him, and His resting place shall be glorious."
105 It shall come to pass in that day that the Lord shall
set His hand again the second time to recover the remnant of His people, from
Assyria and Egypt, from Pathros and Cush, from Elam and Shinar, from Hamath and
the islands of the sea. He will set up
a banner for the nations, and will assemble the outcasts of Israel, and gather
together the dispersed of Judah from the four corners of the earth.
THE FINAL REBELLION (Rev 20:7-10)
106 When the thousand years have expired, Satan will be released from his prison and will go to deceive the nations in the four corners of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them to battle. Their number is as the sand of the sea. They went up on the breadth of the earth and surrounded the camp of the saints and the beloved city, but fire came down from God out of heaven and devoured them.
107 The devil who deceived them, was cast into the lake of
fire and brimstone where the beast and the false prophet are. And they will be
tormented day and night forever and ever.
THE REST OF THE DEAD WILL RISE AT THE FINAL JUDGEMENT
(Rev
20:11-15, John5:26-29,6:39-40,44,54, Matt 22:30-32, Mark 12:25-27)
108 "the Father has given Him authority to execute judgment also, because He is the Son of Man. Do not marvel at this; for the hour is coming in which all who are in the graves will hear His voice, and come forth those who have done good, to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of condemnation.
109 Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away, and there was found no place for them. I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God, and books were opened. And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life, and the dead were judged according to their works, by the things which were written in the books.
110 The sea gave up the dead in it, and Death and Hades
delivered up the dead in them. They were judged each one according to his
works. Then Death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second
death - anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of
fire.
111 "This is the will of the Father who sent Me, that of all He has given Me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up at the last day. This is the will of Him who sent Me, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him may have everlasting life; and I will raise him up at the last day. No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up at the last day. Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.
THE SON OF MAN WILL
JUDGE THE NATIONS
(Matt25:31-46,Lk20:35-36, John 5:30,1Pet4:3-5)
112 "When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him, then He will sit on the throne of His glory. All the nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate them one from another, as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats; and He will set the sheep on His right hand, but the goats on the left.
113 "Then the King will say to those on His right hand, 'Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me.'
114 "Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, 'Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You drink? When did we see You a stranger and take You in, or naked and clothe You? Or when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?'; and the King will answer and say to them, 'Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.'
115 "Then He will also say to those on the left hand, 'Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels: for I was hungry and you gave Me no food; I was thirsty and you gave Me no drink; I was a stranger and you did not take Me in, naked and you did not clothe Me, sick and in prison and you did not visit Me.'
116 "Then they also will answer Him, saying, 'Lord, when did we see You hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to You? Then He will answer them, saying, 'Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me’; and these will go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into eternal life."
117 I can of Myself do nothing. As I hear, I judge; and My
judgment is righteous, because I do not seek My own will but the will of the
Father who sent Me.”
118 For we
Christians have spent enough of
our past lifetime in doing the will of the Gentiles when we walked in lewdness,
lusts, drunkenness, revelries, drinking parties, and abominable idolatries. In
regard to these, they think it strange that you do not run with them in the same flood of dissipation,
speaking evil of you. They will give an account to Him who is
ready to judge the living and the dead.
119 ”In the resurrection, when they shall rise from the dead, they neither marry nor are given in marriage, neither can they die any more, for they are equal to the angels of God which are in heaven; and are the children of God, being the children of the resurrection
AND ISRAEL WILL BE
JUDGED
(Mt 8:10-12, 11:20-24, 12:41-42, 19:27-30, Mk 10:28-31,
Lk 10:13-16, 11:29-32, 13:22-30, 18:28-30)
120 Then He began to rebuke the cities in which most of His mighty works had been done, because they did not repent: Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty works which were done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented a great, long while ago, sitting in sackcloth and ashes; but I say to you, it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the judgement, in the day of judgment, than for you.
121 “And you, Capernaum, who are exalted to heaven, will be brought down, thrust down to Hades; for if the mighty works which were done in you had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day; but I say to you that it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment than for you."
122 "The men of Nineveh will rise up in the judgment with this generation and condemn it, because they repented at the preaching of Jonah; and indeed a greater than Jonah is here. The Queen of the South will rise up in the judgment with the men of this generation and condemn them with it, for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and indeed a greater than Solomon is here.
123 "Strive to enter through the narrow gate, for many, I say to you, will seek to enter and will not be able. When once the Master of the house has risen up and shut the door, and you begin to stand outside and knock at the door, saying, 'Lord, Lord, open for us,' and He will answer and say to you, 'I do not know you, where you are from,'
124 “Then you will begin to say, 'We ate and drank in Your presence, and You taught in our streets; but He will say, 'I tell you I do not know you, where you are from. Depart from Me, all you workers of iniquity. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when you see Abraham and Isaac and Jacob and all the prophets in the kingdom of God, and yourselves thrust out. They will come from the east and the west, from the north and the south, and sit down in the kingdom of God; and indeed there are last who will be first, and there are first who will be last."
125 When Jesus heard it (the centurion’s faith), He marveled, and said to those who followed, "Assuredly, I say to you, I have not found such great faith, not even in Israel!; and I say to you that many will come from east and west, and sit down with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven; but the sons of the kingdom will be cast out into outer darkness. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth."
...BY THE DISCIPLES... (Luke 22:28-30)
126 Then Peter answered and began to say to Him, "See, we have left all and followed You; therefore what shall we have? So He (Jesus) answered and said to them, "Assuredly I say to you, that in the regeneration, when the Son of Man sits on the throne of His glory, you who have followed Me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
127 And everyone of you will be recompensed - there is no-one who has left houses or parents or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or lands, for My name's sake, for the sake of the kingdom of God and the gospel’s, who shall not receive many times more : - a hundredfold now in this present time, houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands, with persecutions - and in the age to come inherit eternal, everlasting life. But many who are first will be last, and the last first.”
128 "But you are those who have continued with Me in My trials; and I bestow upon you a kingdom, just as My Father bestowed one upon Me, that you may eat and drink at My table in My kingdom, and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel."
...ACCORDING TO THE SERMON ON THE MOUNT (Matt 5:-7:, John 12:47-50)
129 "Blessed are the poor in spirit, For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are those who mourn, For they shall be comforted.
Blessed are the meek, For they shall inherit the earth.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, For they shall be filled.
Blessed are the merciful, For they shall obtain mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart, For they shall see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers, For they shall be called sons of God.
Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake. Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
130 Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill. For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one title will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled. Whoever therefore breaks one of the least of these commandments, and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever does and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. For I say to you, that unless your righteousness exceeds the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven
.
131 You have heard that it was said to those of old, 'You shall not murder, and whoever murders will be in danger of the judgment.'; but I say to you that whoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment; and whoever says to his brother, 'Raca!' shall be in danger of the council. But whoever says, 'You fool!' shall be in danger of hell fire.
132 If your right eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and cast it from you; for it is better that one of your members perish, it is more profitable for you, to enter into life with one eye, rather than having two eyes, for your whole body to be cast into hell fire; (also Matt 18:9)
133 And if your right hand or foot causes you to sin, cut it off and cast it from you; for it is better that one of your members perish, it is more profitable for you to enter life lame or maimed, than having two hands or feet for your whole body to be cast into the everlasting hell fire.(also Matt 18:8)
134 Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.
135 Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. Many will say to Me in that day, 'Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?'; and then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!'
136..”And if anyone hears My words and does not believe, I
do not judge him; for I did not come to judge the world but to save the
world He who rejects Me, and does not
receive My words, has that which judges him the word that I have spoken will
judge him in the last day.
WATCH YOUR WORDS (Matt 12:31-32, 36-37, Mark 3:28-30)
137 "Assuredly I say to you, every sin and whatever blasphemies they may utter will be forgiven the sons of men, but he who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness, but is subject to eternal condemnation. Blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven men. Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man, it will be forgiven him; but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit, it will not be forgiven him, either in this age or in the age to come (because they said ‘He has an unclean spirit’).
138 But I say to you that for every idle word men may
speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgement, for by your words
you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned
NEW COSMOS-ES FOR OLD (2 Peter 3:8-13)
139 Beloved, do not forget this one thing, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.
140 The day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up.
141 Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be dissolved, being on fire, and the elements will melt with fervent heat? Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.
HEAVEN ON EARTH ! (Rev 21: 1-11)
142 I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea.
143 I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband, and I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, "Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God. God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away."
144 He who sat on the throne said, "Behold, I make all things new." He said to me, "Write, for these words are true and faithful. It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. I will give of the fountain of the water of life freely to him who thirsts. He who overcomes shall inherit all things, and I will be his God and he shall be My son.
145 "But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death."
146 One of the seven angels who had the seven bowls filled with the seven last plagues came to me and talked with me, saying, "Come, I will show you the bride, the Lamb's wife." He carried me away in the Spirit to a great and high mountain, and showed me the great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God, having the glory of God. Her light was like a most precious stone, like a jasper stone, clear as crystal.
