Good news: Victory is ours

Romans 8 : 1-39

1. Victory over my sinful nature is assured (1-17)

a) Christ’s intervention ensures it (1-4)

b) God’s Spirit within me guarantees indomitable life (5-11)

- minds set on what the Spirit desires (5)

- true life and peace (6)

- righteousness is ours (10)

- a resurrection body - totally free (11)

c. In the light of this we’re to live as sons of God now (12-17)

2. It’s a victory worth suffering for (18-25)

a) In comparison, the suffering is nothing (18; 2 Cor. 4:16-18)

b) The final liberation will be glorious (21, 23)

c) Christian hope is never disappointed (24, 25)

3. God’s on our side (26-39)

So we have:

a) God’s Spirit to strengthen us in every area of life (26, 27)

b) God’s personally involved in every experience (28)

c) God’s committed to making us like His Son (29)

d) God’s promised to get us to glory (30) cf. John 10:28, 29

e) God takes on our enemies (31-34)

- greater than every foe (31)

- gives us everything we need (32)

-protect & vindicates (33, 34)

f) God’s love will never let us go (35-39)
